International Educated Nurses must apply to NNAS before applying for Registration in respective province and Territories. The main role of NNAS is to collect and assess the nurse document and information. After the NNAS reviews and assesses nurse application, they will prepare an advisory report about credential evaluation for immigrants. The verification process can take up to four weeks.

Federal Skilled Workers programme has Express Entry System for nurses, they need to score 67 for 100 possible points (Points calculated based on education, age, work, experience and language proficiency). Foreign nurse need to produce IELTS score for Express Entry System.
- Quebec Skilled Worker
Nurses can qualify for the Quebec Skilled Workers (QSW) program; they need to score minimum 50 points for selection of Quebec Workers. For this program, there is no need IELTS score, don’t need of Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) and don’t need to declare funds for immigration.
- Provincial Nominee Program
This program is partnership between State Provincial Government and the Federal Government. Every province has own nominee program, this program can lead to Canadian Permanent Residence (PR).

STEP BY STEP PROCESS FOR NURSE TO WORK
- Educational/Professional Qualification
- Proficiency with English Language (TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS)
- NCLEX Examination
- Find a job in USA
- Attend Job Interview
- Receive offer, employer apply for work visa
- Get visa from US embassy and attend aptitude test
- Complete US embassy formalities and fly to USA
- Start to work in USA
STEP 1 – Educational/Professional Qualification
Foreign nurses need Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) or Associate Degree in Home Country. Nurse need to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in Home country and practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least two years before.
Nurse need to apply for CGFNS to have academic and professional credentials evaluated to ensure documents is genuine or authentic. Nurse is also required to take the CGFNS Qualifying Exam to satisfy State Board requirements, to satisfy immigration requirements for obtaining an occupational visa to work in U.S.A.
CGFNS – (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools). CGFNS is approved by U.S. Department of Homeland Security to validate the credentials for occupational visas (Registered Nurses). )
Step 2: Proficiency with English Language (TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS)
Foreign Nurses need to demonstrate their proficiency with the English language by taking an English Test. There are exemptions depending on Country of Origin especially for nurses who come from English Speaking Countries. Nurse can take English examination such as Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) or the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC).
Nurses with entry-level nursing education from the following countries and their language of instruction and textbooks are in English are exempt from the English language proficiency requirement.

Canada (except Quebec, the only schools approved for exemption are: McGill University, Dawson College, Vanier College, John Abbott College, and Heritage College)
Ireland
Jamaica
New Zealand
South Africa
Trinidad and Tobago
United Kingdom
United States
Step 3: NCLEX Examination
The first priority for foreign nurse is to pass the NCLEX-RN exam to get registered nurse position in the USA. This is the Standardized Nurse License exam to find nurse skills and experience to meet the requirements of U.S. hospitals. If nurse need to get registered and to work in U.S., the first thing is to pass the NCLEX-RN examination. Currently, NCLEX examinations are currently administered in Brazil, Canada, England, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Africa, and Taiwan.
Step 4: Get Job Offer in USA
After credentials evaluation by CGFNS and passing NCLEX-RN examination, the foreign nurse can apply for registered nurse position in U.S. The nurse can approach the recruiting agency in U.S. or Home Country to find suitable nursing position and nurse can also apply through the U.S. Job portals. Employers will conduct interview and offer job in U.S. hospitals. On behalf of Nurse, the employer can apply work Visa.
